Emily Adelaide Maness Brower

May 10, 1881 – June 28, 1915

The second daughter and sixth child born to Dumas Maness and Emeline Strickland, Adelaide was born May 10, 1881.  Raised in Sheffield Township in Moore County, she met and married Wyatt Brower January 11, 1904.  Wyatt was born September 12, 1864, to General Jackson Brower and Betty Williams in Brower Township, Randolph County, NC.  Wyatt and Adelaide lived and raised their family in Sheffield Township.  Adelaide was the mother of six children, four sons and two daughters (Delia Brower, Charlie Brower, James Clayton Brower,  Mamie Brower Davis (Russell), William Brower, and Thomas Lee Brower).  To provide for his family, Wyatt farmed, cut cross ties, was a chimney builder, and dug wells.  Adelaide helped to raise Wyatt’s younger children left at home after his first wife died in 1900.  Adelaide died June 28, 1915, of Tuberculosis, also leaving small children for Wyatt to raise.
